The Right Base Makes a Paver Patio Last for Years

Most people focus on how a patio looks when it's finished. That's fair - the pavers, the pattern, the finished edges. But what actually determines whether that patio holds up for years or starts shifting and sinking? The base. Every time.

Here's what we mean by that. Before a single paver goes down, the ground underneath has to be graded correctly, packed down, and filled with the right base material. Skip that step or rush through it, and you're setting the whole project up to fail. Drainage problems, uneven settling, cracked pavers - it all comes back to a sloppy base.

That's why we take our time with this part of the job. We use a Bobcat MT100 to spread and level the gravel base evenly across the entire area. It's not glamorous work, but it's the kind of thing that separates a patio that looks great for a season from one that looks great for decades. Proper grading also means water moves away from your home the way it's supposed to - not pooling under your pavers and causing problems down the road.
