Water that gets trapped between retaining walls is one of the sneakier drainage problems a property can have. It has nowhere to go on its own. It just sits there, saturates the soil, and slowly puts pressure on walls, foundations, and anything else in its path. Left alone long enough, it turns into a much bigger - and more expensive - problem.

That's exactly what we were dealing with here. The layout of the space meant surface water had no natural outlet. So we dug in and built a proper sump pump basin system from scratch. The basin itself is set into a clean gravel bed, which helps water filter in from the surrounding soil without dragging sediment into the pump. That gravel layer matters - it keeps the system working efficiently over the long haul instead of clogging up after a few heavy rains.

The pump sits at the bottom of the basin and moves collected water out through PVC discharge lines routed away from the problem area. Everything is plumbed tight with solvent-welded fittings - no shortcuts. We also positioned channel drains at the surface level to intercept runoff before it even gets a chance to pool. It's a layered approach, and that's intentional.

A system like this doesn't just deal with the water you can see. It handles the stuff moving through the soil that you'd never notice until your wall starts to bow or your structure starts to shift. Getting ahead of that is the whole point. Drainage done right protects the property - not just for today, but for years down the road.
