The area around the base of a home is easy to overlook. No flowers, no obvious problems - just bare dirt or patchy grass that never quite looks right. But that foundation line is one of the first things people notice, and when it looks rough, the whole yard feels unfinished.

That's exactly what we were working with here. The beds along the back of this home needed a real solution - something that would look clean, hold up over time, and actually do some work in terms of drainage and weed control. Stone was the right call.

We laid gravel stone beds along the foundation, wrapping the back of the house and around the sunroom addition. The stone creates a clear, defined edge between the lawn and the structure. No more muddy zones where grass refuses to grow. No more dealing with that strip of bare dirt after every rain. The stone also helps move water away from the foundation instead of letting it pool up against the house - which is a bigger deal than most people realize.

We also worked in a fresh layer of dark mulch in a separate bed area to complement the stone. That contrast between the rich black mulch and the lighter gravel is a simple detail, but it gives the landscape some depth and keeps each zone looking intentional. That kind of variety - stone where drainage matters, mulch where plants live - is how you get a yard that actually functions well and looks good doing it.

Stone beds are about as low-maintenance as it gets. Once they're down, they're down. No replanting, no yearly refresh, no fighting weeds every summer. It's one of those upgrades that pays for itself in time saved and headaches avoided.
