A well-built walkway does more than connect two points. It sets the tone for the whole yard - how it feels to walk up to the house, how easy it is to move through the space, and how polished the overall landscape looks. That's what we're building here.

What you're looking at is a paver walkway mid-installation. The main field is a larger-format stone paver, light in tone, laid in an alternating pattern. It's bordered on both sides by a smaller, darker cobble-style paver that frames the path and gives it a finished, intentional edge. That contrast between the two materials is one of those small details that makes a big difference once everything is done.

The base prep is just as important as what goes on top. You can see the compacted gravel base running along the sides - that's what keeps the pavers from shifting or settling over time. It's the part of hardscaping work that nobody sees, but it's what determines whether the walkway holds up for years or starts looking rough after a couple of winters.

We're also setting up the planting layout alongside the walkway. Getting the plants positioned before everything is locked in gives us the chance to make sure the spacing works with the hardscape and that the overall design feels cohesive - not like the plants were an afterthought. That kind of planning is what separates a yard that just has a path from one that actually feels designed.

Whether it's a walkway, a patio installation, or a full hardscaping layout, the approach is the same - slow down, get the details right, and make sure everything fits the space the way it was intended to.
