Most yards don't need a full landscape overhaul to look sharp. Sometimes it just comes down to the beds. Clean them up, prep the soil right, lay fresh mulch, and the whole property pulls together. That's exactly what we did here.
We started with proper bed prep before a single wheelbarrow of mulch got moved. That step matters more than most people realize. Skipping it - or rushing through it - is why mulch jobs end up looking rough after a few weeks. We get the beds in the right condition first, then we lay the mulch.
We also applied pre-emergent herbicide as part of this install. That's not something everyone includes, but it makes a real difference. It creates a barrier that helps stop weed seeds from germinating in the first place, so the beds stay cleaner longer. Fresh mulch looks great. Fresh mulch without weeds pushing through it looks even better.
The dark mulch we used pops against the shrubs and plantings and gives the whole front of the home a finished, cared-for look. It's the kind of detail that reads immediately from the street. Clean lines, dark beds, healthy plants - that combination does a lot for curb appeal without a big budget.
Good landscaping starts with the groundwork. If your beds are looking tired or the weeds are winning, a proper mulch install with the right prep underneath it is the fix.
